Malaysia is poised to elevate its global tourism profile with a landmark series of events commencing in Melaka, headlined by the official inauguration of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. This high-profile launch, to be presided over by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Klebang, will be complemented by the concurrent hosting of World Tourism Day 2025 and the World Tourism Conference 2025. These gatherings are set to firmly position the nation as a premier destination for international travelers.
The Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, anchored by the themes “Malaysia Truly Asia” and “Surreal Experiences,” is designed to immerse visitors in the nation’s profound cultural richness and stunning ecological diversity. An international delegation of over 150 representatives from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation will be in attendance, underscoring the event’s global significance. The state government, in partnership with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, has curated a spectacular program to showcase the region’s unique appeal.
A vibrant array of cultural festivities has been organized to captivate attendees, transforming Melaka into a dynamic hub of activity. The skies will be adorned with the International Kite Festival, while the ground will come alive with traditional performances, including a record-breaking simultaneous zapin dance involving more than 3,000 participants. The celebrations will also feature the nostalgic Melaka Konda Kondi Festival, an entrepreneurs’ carnival targeting significant business transactions, and a special historical exhibition honoring Enrique de Malacca, the first Asian to circumnavigate the globe.
The grand opening ceremony promises a spectacular finale with performances by renowned artists Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza and Misha Omar, culminating in a breathtaking display of a 1,000-drone light formation over Klebang. To facilitate public access, complimentary shuttle bus services will operate from key parking areas throughout the city. A substantial security contingent of over 600 police personnel will be deployed to ensure all proceedings are conducted smoothly and safely for everyone involved.
This convergence of international events is anticipated to serve as a powerful catalyst for Melaka’s tourism sector, with ambitious targets set for the year. The state aims to welcome 16.5 million visitors, projecting a substantial economic impact of RM23.48 billion in revenue. Through these initiatives, Malaysia is strategically reinforcing its reputation as a must-visit destination offering unparalleled and surreal experiences.
