Malaysia is taking bold steps to solidify its position as a global leader in halal trade through a groundbreaking alliance between Halal Development Corporation (HDC) and Muslim Friendly Watch (MFW). The collaboration aims to bridge Malaysia’s internationally recognized halal standards with China’s rapidly growing demand for halal-certified products, creating new opportunities for businesses on both sides.
China’s halal market has seen exponential growth, fueled by its 20-million-strong Muslim population and increasing consumer interest in ethical and quality-assured products. With Malaysia’s halal exports to China reaching RM7.04 billion in 2024, sectors like food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals stand to benefit significantly from this partnership. The Belt and Road Initiative and China’s expanding halal industrial zones further amplify the potential for cross-border trade.
The alliance will streamline halal certification for Chinese businesses while helping Malaysian SMEs penetrate China’s lucrative market. Key initiatives include digital market access, financing solutions, and B2B matchmaking to facilitate smoother trade flows. Additionally, the partnership will promote transparency through awareness campaigns and the implementation of the Muslim Choice System, ensuring compliance with global halal standards.
HDC CEO Hairol Ariffein Sahari emphasized that this collaboration reinforces Malaysia’s halal diplomacy strategy, fostering stronger economic ties with China. MFW President Noorman Kamsani echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the partnership will enhance credibility and consumer trust in halal-certified products. Together, they aim to set new benchmarks for quality and reliability in the global halal industry.
