Malaysia’s coffee scene has reached a new milestone as 34 Gloria Jean’s Coffees outlets nationwide received official halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim). The recognition ceremony, organized by Pernas subsidiary Wonderful Lifestyle Sdn Bhd, marks a strategic move to elevate consumer trust in homegrown franchise businesses while meeting growing demand for certified halal products.

Pernas CEO Datuk Nor Azam M Taib emphasized that the certification represents more than just regulatory compliance—it demonstrates the brand’s dedication to quality and ethical business practices. He credited the achievement to collaborative efforts between Gloria Jean’s management, Jakim’s stringent evaluation process, and backing from the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Kuskop).

Jakim’s approval followed a rigorous assessment of operational procedures, documentation, and supply chain management across all participating outlets. The certification positions Gloria Jean’s Coffees alongside other major halal-compliant coffee chains, reinforcing its appeal to Malaysia’s predominantly Muslim consumer base. The initiative, supported by Kuskop’s compliance grant, reflects the government’s push to strengthen local franchises in competitive markets.

The nationwide certification process, launched in August 2024, required systematic implementation of halal standards at each outlet. Pernas continues to champion such initiatives, aiming to boost the global competitiveness of Malaysian franchises through quality assurance and adherence to international benchmarks. This development signals broader opportunities for halal-certified brands in the food and beverage sector.
