Malaysia and China are forging a groundbreaking partnership in the halal food sector with the establishment of a new industrial park in Perak. The 60-hectare China-Malaysia Halal Food Industrial Park, set to become a regional hub for halal production and trade, will combine Malaysia’s globally recognized halal certification standards with China’s advanced food processing and logistics capabilities.

The agreement, signed between China-Malaysia Investment Holding Group and Perak Islamic Economic Development Corporation, marks a strategic step in strengthening bilateral economic ties. The project will integrate Malaysia’s Jakim-certified halal standards with China’s industrial expertise, creating a platform for research, manufacturing, and international distribution. Key figures from both nations, including Malaysia-China Business Council director Datuk Beh Hang Kong, emphasized the park’s potential to enhance trade connectivity across ASEAN, the Middle East, and Europe.

Beyond food processing, the industrial park will feature a halal certification center and a specialized training facility to support workforce development. By leveraging China’s New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the China-Europe freight train network, the initiative aims to streamline the export of halal products while boosting Perak’s role in global trade. The collaboration aligns with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a leader in the halal industry.

The project was among 13 key agreements signed during a high-profile ceremony in Kuantan, attended by Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He highlighted the growing synergy between Malaysia and China, particularly in logistics and port development. With the upcoming completion of the East Coast Rail Link in 2027, Kuantan Port is poised to become a vital gateway for trade between Peninsular Malaysia and ASEAN markets. Guangxi’s unique geographic advantage as China’s only land-and-sea link to ASEAN further strengthens the partnership’s long-term prospects.
