Malaysia’s halal certification body has revoked the accreditation of two five-star hotels in Melaka following their involvement in alcohol-related events. The decision by JAKIM underscores the strict enforcement of Islamic dietary laws, with authorities warning businesses against exploiting halal certification for commercial gain without proper adherence to religious guidelines.

The hotels in Banda Hilir lost their Halal Malaysia Verification Certificates (SPHM) after hosting parties serving alcohol, which violates the terms of their certification. JAKIM’s Director-General, Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee, emphasized that such breaches undermine public trust in the halal system.

Authorities have pledged to intensify monitoring and enforcement across the country to prevent further misuse of halal credentials. This move aims to safeguard the integrity of Malaysia’s halal certification, a key component of its Islamic governance framework.

The incident serves as a stern reminder to all certified establishments to strictly comply with sharia-compliant regulations. Failure to do so could result in similar penalties, reinforcing the importance of maintaining halal standards in business operations.
