Thailand is taking bold steps to position itself as a key player in the global Halal market while addressing critical safety concerns in related industries. The newly unveiled Halal Export Champion 2025 initiative, spearheaded by EXIM BANK, seeks to empower local SMEs by equipping them with the tools to meet international Halal certification standards. This strategic move comes as Thailand recognizes the growing demand for Halal products worldwide, particularly in Muslim-majority nations.

At the heart of this initiative is a multi-sector collaboration involving 15 organizations, including financial institutions, industrial development bodies, and Islamic authorities. Dr. Duangrat Chuawongse of EXIM BANK highlighted the program’s focus on educating businesses about Halal compliance, refining production methods, and expanding market reach into high-potential regions like the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The project also facilitates direct connections between Thai producers and global buyers, fostering long-term trade relationships.

Parallel to this economic push, Thai authorities are tightening regulations on gas canister safety following recent accidents in food service establishments. TISI Secretary-General Wanchai Phanomchai stressed the dangers of improper gas canister reuse, particularly when refilled with LPG. New safety standards, set to take effect in mid-2025, will mandate rigorous testing and enhanced safety features to prevent explosions. These measures aim to protect both businesses and consumers by enforcing strict compliance with manufacturer guidelines.

The Thai government views these dual initiatives as complementary drivers of economic growth and public welfare. By elevating Halal export capabilities and reinforcing industrial safety protocols, the country seeks to bolster its reputation as a reliable global trade partner. With strong institutional support and clear regulatory frameworks, Thailand is laying the groundwork for sustainable expansion in key sectors while prioritizing consumer protection.
